Myofascial Release Therapy
To Support Your Healing Process
Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) is a safe and effective hands-on form of physical therapy that focuses on treating the body’s fascial system. For years the fascia was considered unimportant in therapy. However, through the extensive research of French scientist Jean-Claude Guimberteau we now know that it is the cellular matrix of our entire body and absolutely must be addressed to heal from injury.
The fascia is a thin, but tough, elastic casing of connective tissue that surrounds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle. It is one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption and surrounds and attaches to all structures. Each part of the entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia and it plays an important role in the support and function of our bodies.
In a normal healthy hydrated state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration and should feel pliable and elastic. It has the ability to stretch and slide without restriction. When one experiences physical or emotional trauma the fascia loses its pliability. Over time there is a cumulative effect on the body and the fascia becomes tight and restricted, resulting in diminished blood flow, dehydration, limited movement, neurological issues, sensitivity, muscle tension, and chronic pain. This is how dis-ease develops in our body.

MFR helps release stored trauma and repair the cumulative effects that dis-ease has on the body. Treatment includes elongated strokes and manual pressure to a broad area of muscle and tissue. This technique eases tension and tightness and calms the parasympathetic nervous system. This in turn facilitates healing, reduces pain, restores full range of motion, and supports proper form and alignment in the body.

“Simply put, even the healthiest body will reach a place where there is no more room for stress. Your body will remain tense until the older trauma is released as well as the more recent trauma”
